TRANSFER OF SENIOR SERVICES FROM THE VILLAGE OF ANTIOCH TO ANTIOCH TOWNSHIP
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is the Senior Center temporarily closing?
The Center is closing for upgrades and repairs. This includes painting, deep cleaning, adding new furniture, and cleaning out broken/unused items. The Center will re-open on June 7th, 2022. The building will still be owned and managed by the village. The Antioch Township will run programs at the Senior Center, and the Township Center.
What changes are happening at the Senior Center?
Paul Howard, who is the current Senior Center Director, is retiring. On April 27, 2022, the Antioch Village Board approved an intergovernmental agreement to hand over all senior services and programs to Antioch Township.
Who will manage senior programs and events?
Antioch Township will manage senior programs, events, and services for all of Antioch.
Why is the Township taking over senior services?
The Village and the Township saw there was an opportunity to provide more resources, programs, and opportunities for seniors if programming and focus were dedicated solely to one entity. This agreement allows for needed growth and focused attention on our growing population of seniors. It also made more sense for the Township to take on all of Senior Services considering the extensive services we already provide for seniors. In almost every town in the surrounding area, senior services and programs are run via a Township.
Why are there two locations; The Township and The Senior Center, for senior services?
Antioch Township and The Village of Antioch have operated senior services separately for years. The new leadership from both the Village and the Township are working together to ensure that there are no wasted resources. This plan, of Antioch Township taking over senior services, includes the Township continuing to financially support the long-standing programs at the senior center, and the programs and events that happen at the Township center. The Senior Center/property will still be managed by the Village, and the Township will have programs and events for seniors at the Senior Center and the Township Center.
What does the Township do?
Along with senior services and programming, the Township provides general and emergency assistance, essentials for the community, transportation, help with navigating Medicare and Medicaid, and overall help and assistance for seniors and residents in need.
The Highway Department is in charge of streets and roads located within the Township and outside of the Village of Antioch.
The Assessor’s Office helps with property assessments, taxes, exemptions, senior citizens assessment freeze, tax and property bills, and veterans and disabled persons.
